'Generation Green' Think Tank visits Closed LoopClosed Loop Recycling's Dagenham facility was the chosen location for the first meeting of an innovative national green think tank, made up entirely of school children. Called Our Planet, Our Say, it is part of nationwide schools initiative 'Generation Green' run by British Gas which aims to help schools to tackle climate change through teaching more environmentally responsible behaviour.22 children were chosen to join Our Planet, Our Say by an expert judging panel, including green expert Julia Hailes and ITV science reporter Lawrence McGinty. The 7-14 year olds began their new role by attending a workshop at Closed Loop where they got the chance to expand their knowledge of key environmental issues such as recycling, understanding the part it plays in climate change and how the UK's school children believe they are needed to prevent further damage to the planet. The think tank agreed that the Government can make a huge difference by adopting its policy recommendations and introducing more bins, limiting toy packaging, and insisting on just one colour for plastic bottles - clear. The plans from the workshop will form a manifesto to be presented to the Government at the end of the year, with a petition to back it from the nation's schoolchildren. |
